The Best Valentine’s Day Games for Couples

When it comes to romance, gamers have a bad reputation. The first thing that pops into people's minds, is guys that are immersed in loud and massive multiplayer games, like Fortnite, PUBG, or Call of Duty. And sure - I’m guilty of that too. But the truth is, all hope is not lost for us gamers! A multiplayer game can also be a 2-player co-op adventure. Sharing this gaming experience with your normally not-so-into-games other half can strengthen your bond. So why not take your significant other on a gaming adventure this Valentine’s Day?

Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PS4 games for couples

Easily accessible games, like Super Mario, inspired generations of video game developers to create hundreds of similarly entertaining titles. They’re also immediately enjoyable for non- or occasional gamers too. Here’s my personal list of the best games that helped turn my girlfriend into a fan of gaming together.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure, formerly known as Little Big Planet, is a PlayStation exclusive**,** where you control up to 4 Sackboy's in a super creative and mega-cute virtual adventure.

  • Romance factor: Taking care of the cute little character together is quite wholesome.
  • Gaming platform: PlayStation.

Unravel Two is another cute game that is played in local co-op mode. You play as a pair of Yarnys, small beings made of yarn and connected by a single thread.

  • Romance factor: I repeat, “connected by a single thread”. Does it even get more romantic than that!?
  • Gaming platform: PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Steam.

Overcooked 2 is a hysterically funny game for culinary enthusiasts and fans of the flying spaghetti monster alike. You both act as a cook and manage a restaurant while also trying to save the onion kingdom from the giant spaghetti monster.

  • Romance factor: Italian food and teamwork.
  • Gaming platform: PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Steam.

VR Games to play on Valentine’s Day

Usually, virtual reality games provide a solitary gaming experience. This, due to the fact that only one person at a time can put the goggles on and enjoy the multisensory journey. However, that is not always the case. Here are some games that can be played by couples, even if they only have one pair of VR goggles.

Astrobot Playroom VR is a free, off-the-shelf multiplayer game for PS4 owners. The person with the VR goggles plays the main hero, while player 2 on the big screen acts as the villain and tries to jeopardize player 1’s mission.

  • Romance factor: Catch me if you can!
  • Gaming platform: PlayStation exclusive.

VR The Diner Duo is another great restaurant management game. One of you plays as the chef while wearing the VR goggles, and the other is the waiter who has to collect and serve the orders.

  • Romance factor: Together we can accomplish anything, including running a business!
  • Gaming platform: PlayStation, Steam.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is a genius party game, where you cooperatively try to disengage a timed bomb. Only the person with the VR glasses sees the bomb, so he is responsible for describing what he sees to the other player. The other person has to decode and describe the instructions for dismantling it. This game can cause serious excitement levels - you have been warned!

  • Romance factor: My life is in your hands!
  • Gaming platform: PlayStation, Steam.

PlayStation PlayLink games to play together

Don’t sweat if you are intimidated by game controllers. You can play PlayStation games through your mobile phone as well, and I’m sure you know how to use that! All you have to do is install the PlayLink app on your phone, buy games that are compatible with it and you’re all set! Don’t worry, I’ll list the best ones for you, so you have a head start.

  • Frantics lets you guide your character through cute challenges. Outsmart The Fox, your host, by co-operating and negotiating your way to victory.
  • That's You is a party game, where you can discover new things about your Valentine by answering funny personal questions and collecting points.
  • Knowledge is Power is for trivia buffs. You collect points for answering questions, while also using devious tricks to make your loved one's life a bit harder. Pro tip: Don't go overboard with the tricks, or else...
  • Singstar is a karaoke game that magically converts your phone into a full-fledged microphone. What better way to stay in sync than singing your favorite songs together? Amazing times guaranteed!
  • Hidden Agenda is an interactive mystery movie for thriller binge-watchers. In this game, you decide the movie ending and the faith of your character by choosing their reactions on your mobile phone. Perfect if you’ve always wanted to be a movie star!

Turn gaming time into quality time

As an avid gamer myself, I tend to lose track of time while on the couch playing games. So, I was really happy to discover that by choosing the right games, I can transform one of my favorite hobbies into something I can share with my girlfriend. I hope with this list, you now have plenty of new exciting games to introduce to your relationship this Valentine’s Day. After all, you know what they say:

Couples that game together, stay together!
