What Can You Spend Steam Wallet Credit On?

Most people assume Steam Wallet credit is just for buying games, and while that is its main job, it unlocks far more than a game library. From downloadable content and creative software to hardware like the Steam Deck, and even gifting credit to a friend, this guide walks through everything you can actually do with your balance and the card-free way to top it up now that physical Steam gift cards are being phased out.
Games across every genre
Steam is the largest PC gaming platform in the world, with a library spanning tens of thousands of titles across every genre. Whatever you are into, your credit covers it:
Shooters: Valve classics like Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2, plus modern staples such as Apex Legends and Call of Duty
Survival: from Terraria and Don't Starve to zombie sandboxes like Project Zomboid and 7 Days to Die
Strategy: turn-based epics such as Sid Meier's Civilization VI and grand-strategy titles like Europa Universalis IV
PlayStation and Xbox games on PC
The lines between platforms have blurred. Since 2021, Sony has brought former PlayStation exclusives to Steam, so you can play God of War, Ratchet & Clank and The Last of Us with keyboard and mouse. Xbox Game Studios titles like the Forza Horizon and Halo series are there too — all payable with your Steam credit, no console required.
Downloadable content, expansions and in-game items
Games are only the starting point. A huge share of Steam spending goes toward downloadable content: expansion packs that add whole new chapters, cosmetic items, soundtracks, season passes and in-game currency. If a game supports extra content, your wallet balance is what you use to buy it.
Software and creative tools
The Steam Store carries a surprising range of software beyond games. Wallpaper Engine sets animated desktop backgrounds, while creative tools such as Aseprite for pixel art, RPG Maker for building your own games, and various video and 3D applications are all available. For a lot of creators, Steam doubles as a software store.
Hardware: the Steam Deck and more
Your credit is not limited to digital goods. Steam Wallet funds can go toward hardware like the Steam Deck handheld and the Valve Index VR headset. Because you can stack multiple codes onto one balance, topping up over time is a practical way to build up to a larger hardware purchase.
Gifting Steam credit
Steam credit also makes an easy present for the gamer in your life. Through Steam itself, you can send a digital gift to someone on your friends list, subject to Steam's usual rules. And because PaysafeCard credit is not locked to a single account, it is a flexible way to give someone the means to top up their own wallet.
How to top up: card-free with PaysafeCard
Whatever you plan to buy, the process is the same: add funds to your Steam Wallet, then spend the balance across the store. With physical Steam gift cards being phased out, the reliable way to add credit is online with PaysafeCard — prepaid, private and card-free. It is sold per region and the currency should match your Steam account; the gaming-focused PaysafeCard Players Pass is the same credit built for platforms like Steam. dundle delivers codes instantly by email, with no account needed:
United Kingdom: buy PaysafeCard
Australia: buy PaysafeCard
Its uses go beyond Steam, too — see where you can pay online with PaysafeCard. New to it? Read how to use PaysafeCard and is PaysafeCard safe. Then see how to add Steam credit step by step, how to pay by phone, and the full Steam Wallet top-up guide.
So, what is your Steam credit really for?
Far more than games. Steam Wallet credit is a flexible key to the entire Steam ecosystem — games across every genre, DLC and in-game items, creative software, hardware, and gifting. Once you see everything it unlocks, that balance suddenly looks a lot more valuable.
