Xbox Game Pass Tiers and Pricing Explained

As we all know, Xbox Game Pass is a great service that gives users access to an extensive library of high-quality games from every genre. With so many options, understanding the different subscription tiers could be confusing, especially after the most recent changes. As of July 10, 2024, prices have increased and perks have shifted for new subscribers, with current subscribers facing these same changes in September 2024. In this article, we’ll provide a clear overview of the pricing and benefits of each Xbox Game Pass tier. Let’s get down to it.

What do you get with Xbox Game Pass Subscriptions?

There are four Xbox Game Pass tiers: PC, Core, Ultimate, and the newly introduced Xbox Game Pass Standard. Each tier offers different benefits tailored to various gaming preferences and needs.

Here's a comparison of the benefits offered by each tier:

Xbox Game Pass Core

Previously known as Xbox Game Pass Console, Core offers access to 30-40 selected games that rotate periodically. This tier also includes the ability to play online multiplayer on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Xbox Game Pass PC

Xbox Game Pass PC brings your favorite Xbox games straight to your PC. This tier gives you access to the entire Game Pass library for PC, including EA Play. This means you can enjoy additional games from EA, such as EA Sports FC 24, F1 23, and It Takes Two. One of the standout benefits is the ability to play new games from the moment they release, like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Xbox Game Pass Standard

This is the newest tier, which was introduced on the 10th of July 2024. Xbox Game Pass Standard allows you to play online multiplayer on Xbox consoles and access the full Game Pass library, but excludes EA Play and the ability to play new games on release. Speculation suggests this change might be a strategy by Microsoft to offset potential lost revenue from the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate

True to its name, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is the most comprehensive subscription. Get it all in one subscription, including full access to the Game Pass library and the EA Play library, and allows you to play games on their release day. Ultimate is also the only tier that offers Cloud gaming, enabling you to play games without installing them, provided you have a strong internet connection. This feature is particularly appealing for Xbox One owners, who can play Series X|S exclusives like Microsoft Flight Simulator, Forza Motorsport 7, and Hi-Fi Rush.

How Much Does Each Xbox Game Pass Tier Cost?

The cost of Xbox Game Pass varies depending on when you subscribed. As of now, there are two different pricing structures: one for existing subscribers (those subscribed before July 10) and one for new subscribers. Here's a comparison of the costs for all Xbox Game Pass tiers:

How to Buy Xbox Game Pass for Less

Important note: From September onwards, both existing and new subscribers will face higher prices. Microsoft has also limited subscription stacking to a max of 13 months.

However, if you're clever about it, you can buy your Xbox Game Pass for a cheaper price from resellers like dundle. There, the prices are still the old cheaper price list – so make sure to get them quickly before they inevitably increase as well. You’ll also never run the risk of getting overcharged because prepaid is the safest way to go!

Will you Xbox Game Pass, or Will You Pass?

We hope this article has made more sense of the array of Xbox Game Pass tier options and their pricing. Despite the price increase, the subscription still offers excellent value and is worth considering. However, if we're allowed to speculate for a moment, previous trends indicate it will probably not be the last price hike. While you decide if it is worth it or not, our guide on how to cancel your Xbox Game Pass subscription can help if the time comes. Regardless of your choice, we wish you many enjoyable hours of gaming!
