5 Amazing Ideas to Make the Most of Valentine's Day at Home

A couple of years ago, someone asked me, “When was the last time you tried something for the first time?” That sentence stuck with me ever since. Experiencing new things is always good for you, especially when you are looking for romantic ideas for Valentine’s Day at home. Because as you know, 2020 has shown no mercy for any of us. And 2021 hasn’t made up for it yet. So here are some tried and tested tips for spending a wonderful day at home this year, whether you are single or in a relationship!

Cook something you’ve never tried before

Why not learn how to cook something new? Try something that you have never attempted before, something a little bit exotic. Join forces with your partner in the kitchen and prepare a tasty pad thai, delicious alfajores, or a traditional carbonara. The internet is full of ideas for the taking! For instance, there are tons of cooking streams on Twitch. Watching someone cook live and repeating the steps is way more fun and gives you a better understanding of how to properly prepare the recipe.

Not a fan of cooking? Order something new!

Sure, not all of us like to spend time in the kitchen. However, your local restaurant is always there for you! So why not try out a few new restaurants in your area? Maybe you’ll even discover a new favorite. Even if you stick to your all-time-favorite place, you can also try ordering a dish you have never had before. Or give different delivery services a try. For instance, if you live in the USA, you can always switch between Uber Eats, Grubhub, or DoorDash.

Take a walk into the unknown…

...or known, depending on which city you live in! Just take a different route and discover things from a tourist’s perspective. Perhaps there is a hidden park, a not-so-well-known cemetery, or a small river in the suburbs. No matter if you live in a small town, a tiny village, or a big metropolis - a relaxing walk after dinner is always a great way to see your environment in a new light. And if you are walking alone, you can put on your favorite iTunes playlists as background music or listen to a new podcast. Spotify has a wide variety. You can listen to true crime stories or even learn a new language. Personally, I think Entiende tu Mente is fantastic for learning Spanish and the new Scrubs podcast is always good for a laugh. Whatever you are into, you are sure to find a podcast about it! Whatever your interests, there is a podcast out there for you to enjoy.

Map out the future

What really helps to get through these strange times, is making a list of things you would like to accomplish this year. Work with your partner to create a list of trips you want to take. Write down the restaurants you want to visit, maybe even plan a future birthday party. Planning helps us eliminate the everyday routine and feel better about the future. Moreover, it’s so much fun! And if you need a bit more help with organizing or planning, there are a lot of applications that can help. Dreamfora is my favorite organization app but in the Google Play Store you can find a variety of options.

Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while

You probably text people every day, but when was the last time when you actually called your loved ones? Especially the ones that you can’t meet on a daily basis? What about your grandparents, friends from high school, long lost ex-colleagues, or your old buddy from university? Relationships are like plants - attention is the water that helps them grow. So grab your phone or your laptop, open Skype, and say hello to an old friend. They are sure to appreciate it!

Valentine’s Day at home is not so bad

While it is true that not everyone is into Valentine's Day or pink hearts everywhere, spending this day at home might just be a great excuse for you to do something out of the ordinary. Whether you have a date or not on the 14th of February really doesn’t matter. Use the day as a reminder that taking care of each other is just as important as taking care of yourself. Try something new and show some love to yourself and those who matter the most to you.
