Upcoming New Nintendo Switch Games 2024

It’s already been over 7 years since the Nintendo Switch was released – crazy how time flies! However, with its successor on the horizon, you’d think new exciting game releases would eventually slow down. But thankfully, Nintendo still keeps pumping out many high-quality titles! Whether you’re a Mario, Zelda, Pokémon or Metroid fan – everyone has a potential new favorite game to look forward to this year. We’ve listed the ones you don’t want to miss below.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - 26th September 2024

This one is for all the people out there who keep confusing Link with Zelda – In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom the focus is shifted from Link to Princess Zelda as the main protagonist.

Although this title appears to use the same game engine as Link’s Awakening, it introduces many new mechanics and abilities. Zelda can create so-called Echoes, which are imitations of objects in the environment, to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles – For example by stacking a lot of copies of beds on top of each other to use as stairs – or to create clones of monsters that fight along your side.

With the Bind ability, Zelda can move objects and enemies by binding them to her movements. Is there a rock in your way? Just bind it to Zelda, move a few inches to the left, and so will the rock! The creative ways to solve puzzles are endless, with new experiences for each player’s different approaches. Echoes of Wisdom promises a fresh perspective that will captivate both new and longtime fans of the series.

Super Mario Party Jamboree - 17th October 2024

Game cover is filled with Mario characters in a festive setting. Screenshot shows characters celebrating outdoors with confetti.

Super Mario Party Jamboree is looking to be the most extensive in its series yet, with over 110 minigames – effectively making it THE Mario Party with most minigames so far!

As each entry inches closer to what made Mario Party such a beloved franchise in the first place, Jamboree not only sets the bar high, but promises to leap over it with grace: Where the most recent Mario Parties underdelivered with only 5 boards, you can expect 7 boards with this one. From legendary fan favorites such as Western Land to exciting new concepts such as Roll ‘em Raceway, there is bound to be variation that will last hundreds of hours, if not more!

With the newest mode called Koopathlon, you’ll be competing online against 20 other players in a series of fast-paced minigames – A first in the franchise. Mario Party leaning into the battle royale genre? We’re digging it! Whether playing solo or with friends, Super Mario Party Jamboree looks promising in every way.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership - 7th November 2024

Game cover features Mario and Luigi in a colorful world with an island. Screenshot shows them running by the sea with a whimsical island town.

All aboard the Mario & Luigi: Brothership! It’s the first time the RPG series of the two Mario brothers comes to a Nintendo home console. Its dynamic turn-based combat system relies heavily on the brothers' unique bond to defeat enemies and solve puzzles.

It takes our favorite plumber duo to Shipshape Island, a unique locale that's part ship, part island, as they explore the vast world of Concordia. Players will launch from Shipshape’s cannon to visit various islands, from lush tropical rainforests to bustling urban centers.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD - 16th January 2025

Game cover shows Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong in a jungle. In-game screenshot features them on a wooden bridge with bananas.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is a remastered version of the popular Wii game, and offers enhanced HD graphics as well as additional levels from the Nintendo 3DS version. The game features classic platforming action across 80 levels, where players can stomp enemies, blast through barrels, and ride on rocket barrels and mine carts.

Nintendo veterans might scoff at the steep price tag for a re-release of a re-release, but especially for younger Nintendo fans, this is a great opportunity to experience DK’s must-play adventure – whether alone or in co-op!

Pokémon Legends: Z-A - 2025

Game cover shows the futuristic cityscape of Lumiose City with a glowing tower. Screenshot features a detailed wireframe city with advanced technology.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set in Lumiose City within the Kalos region, the same region featured in Pokémon X and Y, providing a familiar yet fresh setting. The storyline revolves around an urban redevelopment project aimed at transforming Lumiose City into a harmonious environment for both humans and Pokémon. The title, "Z-A," could imply a journey from the end (Z) back to a new beginning (A), mirroring the city's redevelopment efforts.

It will bring back Mega Evolutions, potentially unveiling new forms and evolutions for various Pokémon. You will be able to explore a richly detailed cityscape, follow along an engaging storyline, and encounter both familiar and new Pokémon.

With the dramatic train wreck that was Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, however, expectations from fans for Z-A are very high. The developer team, Game Freak, is under pressure to deliver a polished and captivating experience that restores fans' faith in the franchise. The trailers so far have been promising, hinting that this could be the game that revitalizes the series – at least that’s what we all hope.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - 2025

Game cover has a black background with the title. Screenshot shows Samus Aran in armor in a sci-fi setting with a spaceship.

First announced at the E3 2017, the game is highly anticipated – Understandably so, after so many years! While initially developed in a partnership between Nintendo and Bandai Namco, development was restarted from scratch due to not meeting quality standards. Along with the pandemic, these are the most probable reasons for the delay that all Metroid fans have to endure– but hopefully not for much longer!
