New Video Game Releases December 2021

The last month of the year, December, is the one where you hopefully give and receive some nice Christmas gifts. We have all the information you need to be the expert on everyone's favorite games, whether that be new releases like Chorus and The Gunk or old favorites such as Legend of Zelda, Elden Ring, Psychonauts 2, or the Lego and Marvel franchises. And we provide the last list of new game releases in 2021. November was just crazy with releases like Battlefield 2042, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Forza Horizon 5, Jurassic World Evolution 2, the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy and Skyrim Anniversary Edition. As for December, it’s a bit more quiet with some survival games, a famous FPS, and a few action-adventure titles.

The Festive Season Of Video Gaming Is Around The Corner

It has been an intense year for video games. In hindsight, it’s fair to say that it has also been an epic one, thanks to some legendary console game releases. Our December collection of video game titles introduces a couple of interesting genres, like the online internet sensation Among Us for the PlayStation 5 and 4, or the horror survival, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach. We’ll dive into the futuristic FPS Halo Infinite, and a strategy RPG, Spellforce 3: Reinforced. As for the Nintendo Switch, we get a taste of Japan's favorite game type, interactive visual novels, and introduce you to Danganronpa Decadence. And we cannot forget the remasters of the games that changed the industry forever: GTA The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.

New Video Game Releases for PlayStation in December

The colorful characters of Among Us with bright light behind them

Among Us

The ultimate goal in competitive gaming is proving yourself to be the best in a specific genre. You can be the final champion in your group of friends or the mightiest killer among unknown warriors from all across the internet. When Among Us debuted a couple of years ago on Steam, the idea of using social deduction to find the culprit as a gameplay mechanic was a refreshing new concept to the online multiplayer video game horizon. And it was a hit for a reason because the premise was incredibly fun.

The story goes that you and a bunch of other astronauts are stranded on a spaceship together. However, someone among the party is actually an alien who tries to blend in with the humans, taking part in fake chores around the place. The challenge? You and your crew have to find out which player is the alien as they kill your crewmates off one by one and sabotage the ship. By checking the crew member’s activity and holding meetings, you can try to trick the culprit into revealing their identity so that you can ditch him out into outer space.

The game is out for Steam and Xbox and will debut on the PlayStation 5 and 4 this month. It contains all the previous updates and some exclusive items, like a Ratchet & Clank costume. But the best part of it is probably the cross-platform compatibility - it does not matter if others have a PC or Xbox; you can still play together!

The not so family-friendly animatronics of FNAF playing music as a band

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach

Five Nights At Freddy's, or FNAF, is a great horror game title for jump scare fans. It’s the first title that gives the old mechanics a spin and gives the player a chance to free-roam in the huge complex of Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex. Now, you play as Gregory, a little boy left behind at the venue on his birthday, and little does he know that when the nighttime protocol goes live, so do the other animatronics who try to hunt him down. Your job is to survive and escape from the place by using security cameras and monitoring the movement of every creepy animatronic animal who is after you.

It is not the first title coming out for the PS5 and PS4, and the last release, Five Nights At Freddy's VR for the PlayStation VR, was a huge hit. Although maybe experiencing the game in virtual reality sounds a little intense, doesn't it?!

Master Chief of Halo Infinite is standing in a diverse field of trees and mountains

Halo Infinite

It's a big year for Halo games, as it is also the 20th anniversary of the franchise and the Xbox game consoles. It was a long wait with delays, but it's finally here! Halo Infinite is out this month for Xbox Series X/S and PC, and it's the latest installment for fans of one of the most characteristic video game protagonists, Master Chief. For those living under a rock, unfamiliar with the Halo franchise; it's a futuristic, sci-fi first-person shooter that revolves around Master Chief, part of a human military group. His job is to protect the ancient, ring-shaped superweapons called Halo Arrays. The 6th entry of the FPS series continues the story of Halo 5: Guardians. And if the rumors are true, it gives Master Chief a more central role, where he tries to locate an artificial intelligence, called 'The Weapon', which can help defend the Halo ring the story played on.

Two characters of SpellForce 3 with a weapon and magic

SpellForce 3: Reforced

SpellForce 3: Reforced is a game for sci-fi fantasy and strategy fans, and it's a perfect blend between real-time strategy and RPG elements. The story revolves around the happenings of the great Mage Wars, where whole regions have fallen into anarchy and made refugees roam the lands. A plague called the "Bloodborne" instills great suffering on the unfortunate land of Nortander.

As you would expect, it's an RPG game for console controllers, so the UI and controls are tailor-made to your Xbox's joysticks. You can choose from Elves, Orcs or Humans, and team up with other adventurers with the online multiplayer option. There are 30 plus hours of gameplay that allow you to dive deep into exciting lore and new virtual experiences of SpellForce III: Reinforced.

Note: This update is still coming to PC on December 7, as the console version of the game is recently delayed to March 2022.

New Video Game Releases for Nintendo Switch in December

Characters of Danganronpa Decadence striking a pose

Danganronpa Decadence

Danganronpa Decadence is an interesting one, to say the least. It's an interactive Japanese visual novel/date simulator/adventure game with unconventional lore. The story's main focus revolves around a group of trapped high school students forced to kill each other by a mysterious bear named Monokuma. In this battle royal, you aim to solve this murder mystery and escape the horrors of headmaster Monokuma.

Decadence is a bundle of four games: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair Anniversary Edition, Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition, and Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp. The latter is a brand-new title in the series. It is a board game-style bonus game with all-new scenes and interactions between characters. Does the series sound strange? Well, it is, and now you can experience the whole storyline with this four-in-one bundle for the Nintendo Switch.

Three women on the boxart of GTA The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition

Grand Theft Auto is one of the most successful video games of all time. Eight years after its debut, Grand Theft Auto V still has a massive active online multiplayer community. While we're waiting for the rumored GTA 6, Rockstar Games, with the help of Grove Street Games, remastered the three iconic cities of the 3D version of the games. All are available on the familiar platforms, now with a physical release. GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is finally here.

The vibe and stories are the same, but everything else is different. They enhanced the graphics with new lightning and environmental upgrades, high-res textures and tweaked the controls to resemble GTA 5's mechanics. For fans of the series, getting this release is a no-brainer since you can relive your childhood adventures on the big screen with much more details than you ever had before in previous versions. With 60+ hours of gameplay collectively, it's the perfect holiday gift for fans of the series. However, recently some unfortunate technical issues fueled memes resulting in Rockstar apologizing for the problems. Patches and updates coming soon to fix as much as possible so brace yourselves for a better-than-ever GTA coming your way.
