How to Check Your Apple Gift Card Balance (and How Apple Wallet Fits In)

Once you've redeemed an Apple Gift Card, the credit lives in your Apple Account balance, and there are two things people most often ask next: how do I check what's left, and can I see it in Apple Wallet? This guide answers both.
If you still need a card, you can buy an Apple Gift Card for your region on dundle and get the code by email in seconds:
United Kingdom: Apple gift card for the UK
United States: Apple gift card for the US
Canada: Apple gift card for Canada
Australia: Apple gift card for Australia
How to Check Your Apple Gift Card Balance
There's no scratch panel or website where you check a card's value directly. Instead, you redeem the card and then check your Apple Account balance, which is where the credit is stored:
On iPhone or iPad: open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Media & Purchases and View Account — your available balance shows near the top. You'll also see it above your name in the App Store.
On a Mac: open the App Store, click your name, and your balance appears with your account details.
Quick check: open the App Store and sign in — any available Apple Account balance is shown below your name.
Haven't redeemed the card yet? Do that first — here's how to redeem an Apple Gift Card — and the value will then appear as your Apple Account balance.
Does an Apple Gift Card Show Up in Apple Wallet?
This is the part that trips people up, so let's be precise about what actually happens. You can't store an Apple Gift Card itself in Wallet the way you'd store a boarding pass or a transit card — there's no "gift card" object to scan in. Instead (according to Apple’s website) once you redeem the code, the value is added to your Apple Account balance, and in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and a growing list of other countries, that balance shows up automatically on the Apple Account Card inside Wallet — so you can check your balance, see recent transactions, and top up, all from the Wallet app. If your country isn't yet on the supported list, the balance still exists and works exactly the same — you'll just check it in the App Store instead of Wallet.
Note: Apple has been expanding Apple Account Card support to more countries over time, so availability can change — check the Wallet app's "Add Card" options if you're unsure whether your region is covered.
Why Your Balance Might Look Wrong
If your balance doesn't match what you expected, a few things are usually behind it. You may be signed in to a different Apple ID than the one you redeemed the card to — balances don't move between accounts. A recent purchase or an active subscription may have already drawn the credit down, since Apple uses your balance first before charging any card on file. And if you haven't redeemed the card yet, there's no balance to show as the code has to be redeemed before the value appears. Signing out and back in, or checking on another of your devices, usually clears up any confusion.
Apple Gift Card vs Apple Pay vs Apple Cash
It's easy to mix these up, so here's the difference. An Apple Gift Card is prepaid credit for Apple purchases, redeemed to your Apple Account balance. Apple Pay is a digital wallet that lets you add debit or credit cards to your Apple device and use them to pay in shops and online. Apple Cash is a digital cash balance in Wallet used for person-to-person payments and Apple Pay. They're three separate things — an Apple Gift Card funds Apple purchases through your Apple Account balance, and it doesn't move into Apple Pay or Apple Cash.
What About Adding a Visa or Other Gift Card to Apple Pay?
A lot of people looking to "add a gift card to Apple Wallet" actually mean a prepaid Visa, Vanilla or Mastercard gift card, which is a different thing entirely — that's adding a payment card to Apple Pay, not an Apple Gift Card. Many prepaid gift cards can't be added to Apple Pay at all, because the card issuer has to support it. For the full breakdown, see which gift cards can be added to Apple Pay and Wallet.
